Affiliation Critera
Criteria for offering ISSAM affiliation to other national
societies
(1) The objectives of the society making application should in no way conflict with the objectives of ISSAM
(2) The constitution of the society making application should be regarded by ISSAM as fair and proper. The members of the board/executive should include representatives of a variety of specialties: Urologist, Endocrinologist/Andrologist, Internal Medicine/Cardiologist, Psychiatrist/Psychologist, Geriatrist/Gerontologist. Rotating members should include a Gynecologist, GP/Family Physician as well as specialists from the Public Health domain, Basic Sciences and Sociology. The representation of members of the board may vary due to cultural, educational or traditional practices in different countries.
(3) The number of members of the society making application should be taken into account (although it is recognized that some societies may be very small but may still qualify).
(4) There can be more than one affiliated society from any one given country, provided that the objectives of each society are not in conflict, and that each society is unequivocally supportive of the aims and objectives of ISSAM.
(5) An affiliated society must continue to abide by the constitution and objectives approved by ISSAM. The society will be excluded from ISSAM if it fails to do so, after due warning.
(6) Members of the society applying for affiliation should also become members of ISSAM and receive the Journal - at special discounted rates to be agreed depending on numbers and other circumstances. In applying this criterion, ISSAM officers may take note of special local circumstances relating to individual societies and may modify the obligatory membership of ISSAM and subscription to the Journal, so that only a percentage of the members of the society are required to become members of ISSAM and receive the journal, but this percentage should not be less than 50% and the absolute number of members at least 30. In small and in developing countries where the total membership of the local society is less than 50, the society may be affiliated if at least 20 become members of ISSAM.
(7) In applying these criteria, ISSAM officers may take note of special local circumstances relating to individual societies and may vary or modify the application of some criteria if special local conditions make this appropriate.
N.B. These criteria are subject to periodic review and revision by the Executive Committee of ISSAM
These criteria were prepared by a special committee appointed at the 3rd Annual General Meeting of the Society, Geneva, February 10th, 2000 |
